Genially
First of all we had a brainstorming about English-speaking countries and my pupils decided Ireland could be the best one to choose because it is not as well-known as other countries and they liked the photos we saw on the Internet.
In groups of 2 or 3, they searched for information about Ireland. To begin with, they discussed about the topics they were interested in finding out. For example:
- Capital city.
- Most important cities.
- Map.
- Landscapes.
- Literature.
Music. After making a draft they got on with it. The students watched several videos in order to decide which ones they wanted to have in their presentations. They looked for information about the main cities, such as: Dublin, Galway, Cork and Limerick. Likewise they found out about the most important writers and singers, so as some of their books or songs.
Obviously, my students needed some guidance from both me and their parents. They had two weeks to prepare their works.
To sum up, the experience was very challenging and motivating for all of us. We have checked genially is a very useful tool for introducing many contents. Additionally, this resource allows them to improve their speaking skill, since they have to present it to their classmates. At the same time, peers are happy to listen taking into account this device is really appealing to them.
It is the first time we use Genially in the classroom and we are very much looking forward to employing it again.

I found this activity really interesting. I think it is a wonderful way to mix language and culture at the same time your students learn how to use genially.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, I really enjoyed your blog, I think it has a simple and readable structure and it invites you to open the entries and read your posts.
I also think you could modify some entries and create new ones to use it for your lessons so your students can enter and learn things from it.
I like your blog and I really like your genially presentation about Ireland. As you say, it is a less known English-speaking country. With your permission, I will use it in my classes to teach my students about different English-speaking countries and their culture. It’s a good resource. Good job! I think it will be engaging for students because they love learning about different places. Have you ever tried Google Maps in your classes for visiting new cities? My students love it! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI do like your blog here! I found it really interesting and quiet simple to read. I do find some of your activities quite appealing too. Genially, for example, is an absolutely perfect tool for us teachers to develop students' cultural competence in class. We can draw our students' attention by means of making them participate in searching for info individually and later portray everything in so attractive presentations. In fact, we are hitting two targets with an only shot as we also develop their oral skills.
ReplyDeletePersonally I also like your Pixton task but I would recommend that you include some sample tasks from your students to make the entry more realistic too.
Congrats!
